Wild and crazy baseball season ends

The Red Oak Hawks baseball post season goals came to an end on Saturday, April 29 in of all places, Kennedale, TX.

The Hawks hosted Mansfield Legacy on Friday April 28 and needed a win and a Lake Ridge loss to make the playoffs. However, Legacy, tied with Waxahachie for first at game time, and had one thing on their mind – to beat Red Oak and keep pace with Waxahachie.

Unfortunately for Red Oak, the Broncos came out hitting the ball hard, finding gaps early in the game – to take an early lead which they never gave up.

Red Oak also hit the ball pretty hard too, but the Broncos defense was there to make a play every time, and the Hawks lost their last District game to Legacy 6-0.

Fortunately though, Waxahachie downed Lake Ridge, which complicated things even further, forcing a three-way tie for the 4th and final playoff spot from District 10-5A between Mansfield Lake Ridge, Timberview and Red Oak.

All three teams met at a neutral Kennedale High School to determine who would advance into the playoffs.

Red Oak played Lake Ridge first, and picked up a 6-3 win thanks to a 3 run, bottom of the 7th inning.

The Hawks then turned around and played Mansfield Timberview.

The Hawks took an early 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but the Wolves pushed 5 runs across in the top of the 3rd inning.

The Hawks got as close as 7-4 in the 4th inning, but Timberview pushed two more across by the top of the 7th and went on to win 9-4, knocking the Hawks out of the playoffs.

Missing the playoffs made the final loss even more painful, especially for the 15 remaining Seniors.

The 2017 Hawks started out hot and frankly surprised nearly everyone in the District with huge road wins, but District 10-5A is extremely tough with every run, strike and out being so very important throughout the season.

The Hawks were much improved over last year and although they are losing a lot of key players, there are some darn good freshman and JV players ball players coming up next season.
