TIM LAUGHLIN: God’s love is not an emotion (part 5)

“Love does not envy.” I Corinthians 13:4

The Greek word translated for envy is to burn with zeal or to boil over with anger and jealousy. To envy or to be jealous of someone is to covet and we are commanded by God not to covet but to be satisfied with His provision.

Satan was envious of God's creation and jealous for His power and His kingdom but forgot because he was blinded by pride that God and His arch angels were more powerful and they threw him out of Heaven. The very nature and character of Satan is envy, jealousy and selfish ambition which fuel the world in their pursuit of success and wealth and according to the word, choke the spiritual life out of those who covet such things.

If you have been envious of others or jealous and self-seeking, repent because it will lead to doors being opened that will allow the enemy access to your soul, to rob, steal and even kill, so it is of the utmost to keep yourself free of envy.

“But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking (selfish ambition) in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual and demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing (the powers of darkness) are there.”  James 3:14-16
